Anambra Super 8: 10 Clubs Qualify For Next Round

Truly, it is a dream come true for all football loving fans, players, administrators and officials as the maiden edition of Anambra Super 8 football tournament commenced on Monday, with the zonal playoff matches across the three senatorial zones in the State, Orient Sports reports.
Right now, ten grassroots football clubs have qualified for next round of the competition.

The tournament organized by the Anambra State football Association (ANSFA), officially kicked off at the NEROS stadium Nanka by Patrick Ubaka Okeke, the president of Aspire FC and sole sponsor of the event.

Speaking to Sports Writers, Okeke explained that the competition is first of its kind in the state and was initiated to encourage as well as fish out raw talents at the grassroots, who will develop into football stars in future.

He noted that clubs who excel at the Tournament will be registered to play at the 4th tier of the Nigerian Nation-Wide League which is a huge morale boost to participating clubs and others who are likely to embrace such opportunity when it occurs.

Also Speaking, Chairman of the organizing committee and a member of the board, Prince Oliver Ndigwe lauded the all the registered 27 teams for taken a bold step and urged them to abide strictly to the rules, procedures and guidelines of the competition in order to make it a memorable one in the history of Anambra State.

Orient Sports confirms that all the scheduled fixtures for match day 1, took place at the respective venues, with Smith City Awka FC defeating Global City FC Umunnachi with a lone goal, to qualify for the next round just as Rangels FC beat John Paul FC (2-1), while Big-T Global FC Umunya defeated Ozala FC with a lone goal.

Similarly, at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium Onitsha, Golden Boys FC got three points as walkover against Emmy King of Nsugbe that never turn up for the match, the next encounter ended 6-7 on penalties in favour of Hark Dove Awka FC against Young Africa FC Nawgwu. It was Uncle Ralph FC of Isuaniocha that defeated Ogene FC Obeledu by 4 goals to 2.

 

However, at the NEROS Stadium Nanka, MEKON FC Umunze beat Ajalli United 2-1, Solar Spiders slumped 0-2 against Peace FC, as Ifechukwulu FC defeated Nasco Int FC 1-0, while DOSAD FC Enugwu-Ukwu won 2-1 against Amawbia United.
